Welcome Back 2011-2012

Dear Friendly High Staff and Faculty,

I am excited to welcome you to a new school year.  It is with great pleasure that I accept the honor to serve as your Principal and it is my goal to maintain a culture of high expectations in a caring and respectful environment.

In June 2010 the Maryland State Board of Education unanimously adopted the Common Core State Standards in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. These national education standards establish a set of shared goals and expectations for what students should understand and be able to do in grades K-12 in order to be prepared for success in college and the workplace. Common standards help ensure that students are receiving an equally rigorous, high quality education consistently, from school to school and state to state. The Common Core State Standards form the foundation upon which Maryland is building its new State Curriculum.

While the Common Core State Standards provide goals and expectations for student learning, Maryland educators are developing the State Curriculum that will help its students achieve the Standards.

Friendly High School has implemented a transition plan in order to:
1)      Equip the faculty with an understanding of the Maryland Common Core State Curriculum Framework in Reading/English Language Arts.
2)      Equip the faculty with an understanding of the Maryland Common Core State Curriculum in Mathematics.
3)      Have identified faculty include the MCCSC argument, explanatory and narrative writing products and processes in lesson development and implementation.
4)      Have identified faculty include the MCCSC practices in mathematics in lesson development and implementation.
5)      Have identified, cross-disciplinary faculty teams develop and implement integrated (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) STEM lessons.

Please know that instruction and the measurement of its effectiveness will continue to be the most important task that occurs in our building.  I look forward to working with you to ensure the success of every child.  I will see you on August 15, 2011 at 7:15 a.m.

Sincerely,

Raynah Adams, IV
Principal
